Manitoba Payday Loan Regulations — 2025
Manitoba regulates payday lending under the Payday Loans Act, enforced by the Consumer Protection Office (CPO) of Manitoba. The province was among the first in Canada to cap payday loan fees, and as of January 2025 aligns with the federal $14 per $100 cap. Manitoba also requires all lenders to post a 'Cost of Borrowing' disclosure and honour a 48-hour cooling-off period.
Manitoba's regulations also require lenders to offer an extended payment plan at no extra charge if a borrower is having difficulty repaying — a unique consumer protection not available in all provinces.
